Every day, society bombards us with harmful attitudes and negative or prejudicial messages. I challenge those ideas, by using creative loving compassion to celebrate feminine grace and strength. I fight back as a visual artist by honoring the positive aspects of body image and by working to break down our emphasis on physical beauty. Our bodies are sacred; the only means we have to act on the world, to share love and joy. Everyone deserves to feel beautiful and strong. This focus has now led me to engage in dialogue with communities of women who dislike the way that they look—including those who have or are recovering from eating disorders. Through portraying the strength in these women, and the successes in their struggles, I advocate for social change on both an individual and a group level: More than ever, we need to recognize our own strengths and celebrate the beauty that exists in each other.
I work mostly in graphite and charcoal, because I believe that the immediacy and freedom in those materials allow me to best capture the sense of empowerment that I hope to convey in my work.
I live, work, and create in New York.
I can't always thank people individually for +faves any more (I don't have the time), but I still appreciate and enjoy them, so thank you!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a beautiful day!
